As of now, there is actually a little bit of doubt that Heartland will be renewed for another season. It has been running for 16 seasons now, which is extremely impressive. I can't think of many TV shows that are still around since 2007.
If there is an announcement for Heartland Season 17, it will likely be announced in June this year and the first episode will be aired later this year.

It's hard to know for sure. Heartland's popularity has actually been growing lately, which could be a promising excuse to renew the series for another season.
In fact, Heartland was one of the most streamed TV series in the US last year, so it would seem logical for the team to want to carry on with another season.
What will happen in Season 17?
Season 16 will seemingly end with a resolution to the protests happening at Maggie's. This may carry on into Season 17, though.
We are also expecting some kind of friendship between Amy and Krist to develop.
