Phil Robertson, beloved patriarch of the Duck Dynasty clan, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease - a challenging chapter for the reality TV star and his family. The 78-year-old, known for his rugged charm and duck-hunting legacy, is in the early stages of the disease, according to his son, Jase Robertson. The diagnosis, shared during a recent episode of the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast, highlights the health struggles Robertson is facing.
Phil Robertson Diagnosed With Alzheimer’s Disease: Here's All the Details
Jase Robertson revealed that his father’s health has been steadily declining due to a suspected blood disease, which has further complicated his Alzheimer’s diagnosis. The condition, described as “accelerated” by doctors, has affected Robertson’s entire body, leading to significant physical and mental challenges.
“He’s really struggling,” Jase shared, emphasizing the toll the disease has taken on his father’s daily life. Despite Robertson’s desire to return to his podcast and other familiar routines, his memory issues and physical pain make such activities nearly impossible. “He keeps saying, ‘I’m gonna get back to the podcast,’ but he can barely walk without crying out in pain,” Jase noted.
Family Support During Challenging Times
Robertson’s family, including his wife Kay and children Jase, Willie, Jep, Alan, and Phyllis, have rallied around him during this difficult time. Known for their tight-knit bond, the family is struggling with the reality of Alzheimer’s while providing support to their patriarch.
While Robertson’s condition may hinder his active participation in family and public activities, his legacy as a Duck Dynasty icon and loving father remains untouched. As Jase poignantly remarked, “He is unable to sit down and have a conversation like he once could, but his spirit remains strong.”
