Episode 5 Of "The Buccaneers" Recap And Explanation: Did Nan Break Up With The Guy?

Unexpectedly, there are so unlikeable characters in The Buccaneers' fundamental love triangle. Fortunately, the likable characters get equal screen time, so our dissatisfaction is subdued. On a separate subject, The Buccaneers' overt attempt at being "feminist" could have been better as it is causing some confusion.

Instead of attempting to depict historical events accurately, the program aims to depict better the struggle of women to be who they want to be by drawing a gap between American and British women. It was initially intended to argue that this approach is only impeding a more fluid narrative rather than labeling the program as "unfeminist."

The program's message would have been better served by an even more accurate depiction of those times. Here is a synopsis of The Buccaneers Episode 5 in the interim.

Episode 5 of Season 1 of The Buccaneers Recap

The guy is ensuring Theo and Nan are well-treated upon returning to England. Theo gives him an uncomfortable hug after learning what Guy texted Nan. Inside, Guy has been organizing a yearly bonfire, just as his mother used to do. The guy doesn't say anything when Nan attempts to chat with him when she offers to help him cut wood.

Guy finds a distraught-looking Lizzy when he is trying to flee from Lady Hopeleigh in the kitchen. She gives him an explanation for her anger, mentioning the incident with Lord Seadown without going into specifics.

The person who finds the torch first gets to ignite the campfire in a group game. Guy says the women get to start ahead of them since it's within a labyrinth. Guy and Nan cross paths while everyone looks for the torch, and she tells him that she doesn't believe he should wed Jean. After what he told her in the telegraph, he asks her why she thinks he would marry Jean, to which she responds, "What telegram?"

Guy attempted to approach Nan to speak to her, but Nan fled. Wondering what was written in the telegraph, she gets down to talk with Conchita. Conchita confronts her, stating that she cannot deny her feelings for Guy. She has to know what was on the telegram, Nan tells her.

Nan approaches Guy and inquires about the telegraph. When he tells her how much he loves her, Nan kisses him before pushing him away. Following their kiss, she runs out to escape Guy, and when they run into one other, Theo wonders what they are doing. The guy claims to be taking her around the garden. With plenty of cash on the table, they head inside to play cards.

After fifteen years of Theo defeating Guy in cards, Guy has just triumphed over Theo. Theo becomes enraged about this and confronts Guy about his motivations. Nan, on the other hand, stops them and puts down her winning hand, stating, "I haven't shown my hand." However, she adds, "I feel like I have nothing at all, even though I won." Later that evening, when Theo apologizes to Nan, Guy watches from a distance as the two kiss passionately.

Does Nan Separate From the Guy?

Guy has been odd with Nan and Theo ever since they returned from their trip to New York. Because Theo is insecure, too, he invites Jean Hopeleigh to the group on Guy's behalf for matchmaking, which makes her an uncomfortable inclusion. Nan, on the other hand, is unsure about her emotions for Guy.

She has a moment with him when he is cutting wood, and later on, when he talks about wanting a spouse who is equal to him, just like it was with his parents, she is equally impressed. Did Nan not believe that Theo was treating her fairly?

It must be mentioned that Nan's pick-me attitude is really irritating when she tells Theo in the labyrinth that Jean is not a suitable fit for him. But in the end, it turns out that she never got Theo's telegraph, which completely alters the game since she can easily figure out what he must have written.

She speaks with Conchita, who is happy about her friend's discovery of love despite its inconvenience, and Nan is prepared to discuss it with Guy. He tells her he loves her when she confronts him about the telegram. Nan kisses her in return but feels awkward about it since, in a way, she is betraying her fiancé.
