Heartland Season 16 Episode 12 Recap

Thankfully, Heartland Season 16 Episode 12 gave us a bit of a break from the usual intense drama. Let's recap what happened.

I really enjoyed this week's episode. I was on edge flyer last week's dramatic storyline - this week was much more subdued. Heartland Season 16 Episode 12 was actually really good and made important plot points, though. So, let's recap on what exactly happened.
Spoilers will be present throughout, so I recommend you go over to Hulu and watch it before you read on.

What happened in Heartland Season 16 Episode 12?

First, I need to jog your memory about Finn and Amy. Their entire love story has been such a rollercoaster. He has played her around a little bit - breaking her heart after begging her to give her a chance AND standing her up. We don't see him in the episodes anymore because sadly the actor who played him, Robert Cormier, passed away. In episode 10 of Heartland Season 16, Amy met Kristi who introduced herself as Finn's fiancé. In this episode, Kristi returns and asks Amy to help with her horse.
Of course, Amy wants to refuse but is gently persuaded to by Kristi. Lincoln is the horse, who has been having issues being trained. While at Amy's house, Kristi finds a photograph of Amy and Finn and confronts Amy, clearly upset. To our surprise, we find out that Kristi actually lied about being Finn's fiancé.
Kristi also announced that she was in a car crash with Finn and Jay. Amy told Kristi that she was not really ready to move on after he husband died. It actually seems like these two could have a solid friendship in the future, which we never expected.
P.S. Amy worked her magic and was able to get Lincoln to trust Amy.

Meanwhile, Jack, Lisa, and Katie are away for the weekend, on a lovely fishing trip. In episode 6, Jack and Lisa mentioned that they wanted to go back to the Cabin. On the first day, Katie was very reserved and spent the day reading and writing. Lisa decided to take her on a fishing trip.
Lisa kept trying to get Katie to open up to her but Katie was not willing. Eventually (after a little accident), Katie tells Lisa that she likes Logan. Lisa gave really thoughtful advice about it. The entire fishing trip was super lovely and hopefully puts an end to Katie and Lou's feud.

Lisa and Jack also discuss refurbishing the cabin. Jack relays a few childhood problems he had with his alcoholic dad, and how the cabin is only a reminder of this. He tells her we want to bulldoze the entire cabin. However, after how lovely the fishing trip was, he decides to keep it and even agrees to a new outdoor kitchen.

Another storyline in Heartland Season 16 Episode 12 was revolving around Peter and Lou. They were a little bit rocky in this episode. Peter is away a lot and it's starting to cause arguments with Lou. Peter also disapproved of how overbearing Lou was with Georgie.
Cue a dinner party with Rick (who turned up without Carl, strangely). Peter and Lou, rather embarrassingly start arguing in front of Rick, who tries to calm the situation, but fails.
Peter told Lou that she is too strict with Katie and Georgies. Lou told Peter that he was essentially an absent father and only did the fun side of parenting. Lou stormed off.
The morning after, Rick had made them both lunch. We see that Carl tries to ring Rick but he declines. Lou and Peter then quiz Rick about this and he tells them they're not in a good place, either. While talking to Rick about his problems, Lou and Peter somehow resolve their own issues, too. It was quite a wholesome moment.

What did you think of Episode 12 of Heartland? I think it was a really great episode that seemed to serve as a way to resolve existing conflicts, perhaps to help us prepare for the finale next week.
We post recaps and previews here, so make sure to keep checking for more.
