The Disney CEO surprised the fans when he announced the Moana 2 release date, and it's coming sooner than fans would have expected.
This Wednesday, a surprise release date announcement came as a relief to fans when the long-awaited sequel to the hit animated movie Moana got official confirmation. The animated movie Moana became a success right from the day of release, and its sequel had been in production for a long time. Finally, the wait has ended as the officials have released the first look and teaser of Moana 2, along with the release date.
The first look features fearless Moana and her companions with a huge whale shark.
Moana 2 release date is November 27, 2024. Disney shared the first look at the sequel and announced that it will come to theaters this November.
Speaking of the upcoming animated movie sequel, Disney CEO Bob Iger said,
Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.
Initially, the sequel was planned to be a TV series, but then a change of plan led to the creation of the sequel as a film. Note that this sequel film is not associated with another Moana movie that is currently in production.
Also, a live-action adaptation (remake) of the film is in work, for which Dwayne Johnson will reprise the role of Maui, but Auli'i Cravalho, who plays the lead character Moana, would not return to voice her for the remake.
Although it's not yet revealed as to who will voice the titular in the live-action remake, Auli'i Cravalho, who will be an executive producer for the project , said,
I can’t wait to find the next actress to portray Moana’s courageous spirit, undeniable wit, and emotional strength.
Moana 2 Teaser Trailer
Directed by Dave Derrick Jr., the sequel will have music from Grammy winners and nominees Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa'i, and Mark Mancina. Disney also revealed that Moana 2 will take the audience on a new voyage with sea queen Moana, stating,
An expansive new voyage with Moana, Maui, and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers. After receiving an unexpected call from her wayfinding ancestors, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced.
Moana was a success for Disney, earning a total of $680 million at the box office after its release and 1 billion hours of streaming last year on Disney+.
