It tells the story of a young urban engineer who ends up in the Phulera village of Uttar Pradesh as a secretary of the Gram Panchayat, a position at a low salary that he is reluctant about.

In a recent interview, the lead actor, Jitendra Kumar, who plays Abhishek Tripathi, revealed how he landed the role in Panchayat. He told how he and the team at TVF thought of making a show set in a present-day village. After brainstorming, they decide to put a young urban man at the core of the story who would have to be a part of the village reluctantly.
Once they decided on the basic premise, they started thinking of an actor to play the protagonist. Since Jitendra Kumar was present there, they all decided that he could do it, and that's how we got our Abhishek tripathi.
