It’s clear the writers are trying to humanise Gary, but it's also the question: Why romanticise toxicity?
As fans, we’ve watched Gary manipulate Andi for nine seasons, and Andi, despite her intelligence, continuously falls back into his arms. This time, though, she’s more aware. When Gary asks if she can talk to “the man he used to be,” Andi fires back, Why would she? That man was the problem.
Fatima, Zac, and the Unwanted Guest
In another corner of the chaos, Zac and Fatima are facing their own tension. Chaz, the man who can’t seem to take a hint, pops back into the picture. Claiming he just wanted to “check on Fatima,” Chaz crosses line after line. His persistent flirting doesn’t just make Fatima uncomfortable; it enrages Zac.
Zac storms outside, ready for a fight, but the exchange that follows feels exhausting rather than empowering. Chaz calls Zac insecure, conveniently ignoring the fact that he’s been disrespectful from day one. And while Zac’s anger is somewhat justified, his double standards are glaring. He’s quick to lash out at Fatima for another man’s disrespect, but conveniently forgets how many of his “past women” have shown up at their doorstep. When he screams, “This is my house,” it’s hard not to roll your eyes. If anyone deserves peace, it’s Fatima.
Maurice Brings Comic Relief
After all that tension, Maurice swoops in with his signature sass and humor. When Paige’s brother drops by, Maurice delivers a hilarious Waiting to Exhale-style moment, listing a soulful Southern menu like he’s auditioning for Top Chef: Soul Edition.
But beneath the humor, there’s something else, Maurice’s nervous energy around the new guy hints at vulnerability we rarely get to see. He deserves more serious writing, not just as comic relief. Tyler Perry has built him as the flamboyant best friend archetype, but it’s time to let him grow.
The Ladies and Pam’s Unbothered Attitude
Meanwhile, Pam, Sabrina, and Danni gather at Karen’s place to piece together clues. But Pam’s nonchalance frustrates everyone and viewers too. Instead of urgency, she’s talking about ordering wings before checking social media for Karen updates. It’s comedic, yes, but also tone-deaf considering Karen’s disappearance.
Pam has long been comic seasoning in serious scenes, but at this point, the show needs to give her emotional range. Karen’s missing, and her friend’s playing it cool? Not a good look.
Lisa and Aaron Clash Over Karen
Back at Karen’s mother’s house, Aaron confronts Miss Lisa, desperate for answers. He’s furious that Karen would just vanish leaving her baby behind. He calls her behavior irresponsible and inconsiderate, and while Lisa tries to defend her daughter, Aaron’s frustration feels justified.
Lisa’s protective instinct is strong, but her refusal to acknowledge Karen’s flaws adds to the tension. Aaron reminds her that he’s not just a bystander, he’s the baby’s father and has every right to be concerned.
What’s striking here is how Tyler Perry explores the double standard of empathy: everyone’s worried for Karen, but few acknowledge how her actions affect others.
Andi’s “I’m Grown” Era and Her Downfall
After Gary’s emotional exit (yes, he announces he’s moving to Ghana with his kids), Andi seems liberatedbut also unhinged. She snaps at Danni and Sabrina, insisting she’s “grown” and doesn’t owe anyone explanations.
Danni calls her out, labeling her a narcissist, and fans might actually agree. It’s ironic; Andi’s turning into the very thing she hated in Gary. Her newfound “strength” feels more like arrogance. The unanswered details, like how accessible Fatima’s number and address are, add to the mystery but also feel like loose writing. Still, that final twist sets the stage for what could be a major emotional turning point next week.
Final Thoughts
While it’s frustrating to watch some characters repeat old mistakes (looking at you, Andi and Zac), there’s no denying the show’s grip on its audience.
Gary’s possible exit feels bittersweet; love him or hate him, his presence anchored the drama. Karen’s storyline seems poised for a big emotional payoff, especially if her disappearance leads to genuine healing. And as for Andi, her descent into cold detachment may just be setting up the biggest identity crisis of the season.
