‘Hijack’ Season 2, Episode 7 Recap: Blood on the Tracks

If there’s one thing Hijack does exceptionally well, it’s making viewers question every breath its characters take. Episode 7, fittingly titled “Contact,” is a relentless emotional and psychological rollercoaster that pulls us straight out of last week’s devastating cliffhanger and refuses to let go. The episode doesn’t just raise the stakes; it sets them on fire.

After the shocking finale of Episode 6, the biggest question looming in the air is: Is Sam alive? The answer comes quickly, but it offers little comfort. The cost of survival, as it turns out, is heartbreak, betrayal, and bloodshed.

Wounded but Still Standing

The episode opens in chaos as the German strike team scrambles back to the platform after a gunshot rings out, and for a terrifying moment, it feels like everything might already be lost. But relief comes as the train has successfully switched tracks and vanished, evading immediate capture. Sam is alive; bruised, battered, but breathing.

Inside the cab, tension simmers. Jess, wounded from a bullet to her shoulder, struggles to process what just happened; her disbelief quickly turns into anger when she realizes the truth - Sam and Otto had given her up as a suspect to save themselves. The betrayal cuts deeper than the bullet wound because her pain is emotional as much as physical, and she refuses to play along.

When Lang calls, demanding answers, Jess initially ignores him. But when he threatens to end everything, she caves, confirming she’s alive and still capable of pushing their dangerous plan forward. Trust is fraying at every seam, and the atmosphere inside the train becomes increasingly volatile.

As if the emotional stakes weren’t already high enough, the train begins losing power. Sam heads out to investigate, only to be hit with devastating news from Otto - Petra, one of the innocent passengers, has died from her injuries. For Sam, this is a brutal reminder that every decision he makes carries irreversible consequences; still, there’s no time to grieve. The mission must continue!

Faber’s Relentless Pursuit of the Truth

On the ground, Peter Faber refuses to let politics and protocol blind him. He pushes hard against Winter’s relentless pursuit of Sam, arguing that the real enemy is still out there. But Winter demands concrete proof, not gut instincts.

With access to Sam’s computer, Faber and Olivia dig deep, uncovering unsettling clues that point toward a far more sinister reality. The mastermind behind everything might be hiding within the intelligence service itself. Worse, the trail leads suspiciously close to home, hinting that a British agent could be pulling the strings.

Marsha, alone and hunted in the woods, manages to place a desperate call to Daniel. Her voice cracks as she explains she’s being chased and that his friend is dead. Daniel dispatches help, but not before delivering a truth - Marsha has been used as leverage, a pawn to control Sam’s actions.

With time slipping away, Marsha records one final message, begging Sam not to sacrifice himself for her. Olivia intercepts the message and rushes it straight to Winter, hoping it will finally convince her that Sam is being manipulated, not masterminding the crisis.

It’s a quiet scene, but one heavy with emotional weight. Love, loyalty, and fear collide, reminding us that beneath the high-stakes espionage lies deeply personal pain.

Lang’s Mask Begins to Crack

Lang, the supposed puppet master, makes a big mistake, one fueled by desperation and arrogance. He sneaks off to make secret calls, unaware that his movements are being closely monitored. His German counterpart senses something is wrong, and suspicion tightens around Lang like a noose.

When the strike team mobilizes for another attack on the train, Lang finds himself alone with John Bailey Brown and the German agent. He proposes an exchange of information, hoping to maneuver his way out of trouble. But the tables turn in an instant.

Realising his cover is slipping, Lang commits an unthinkable act by murdering the German agent in cold blood. The calculated brutality exposes Lang’s true nature and confirms what many suspected - he’s not just manipulative; he’s utterly ruthless. Yet, the killing creates a new problem, with a body on his hands and suspicion mounting, Lang must now perform a delicate balancing act to avoid exposure while keeping his deadly scheme alive.

A Deadly Gamble on the Rails

Back on the train, Sam devises a bold and terrifying plan. He convinces Lang that taking the train above ground, in full public view, might deter another assault. But there’s a catch - the failing power supply.

The solution was to separate the cars, but it’s a risky maneuver that forces Sam into an impossible moral decision. He places the children in the portion of the train that will be left behind, hoping it will keep them safe. Jess fiercely objects, but Sam stands firm. His choice is cold, strategic, and heartbreakingly necessary.

As the strike team storms the scene, they free the children and manage to retrieve Petra’s body and her grieving husband. But Jess refuses to back down. She steps into the line of fire, determined to protect the plan and Sam.

Her bravery costs her everything. Jess is shot dead, collapsing in front of Sam as he stands powerless, caught in the crosshairs; her journey, filled with fear, resistance, and courage, ends abruptly, highlighting the merciless reality of their situation.

With the power cut and the train at a standstill, Sam makes one final plea to Clara in Control. His voice carries exhaustion, desperation, and unwavering resolve. Winter, finally convinced by the evidence and Marsha’s message, orders the strike team to stand down.

The train lurches back into motion; for now, disaster is delayed but far from averted.

A Masterclass in Suspense

Episode 7 is where Hijack truly hits its stride; the pacing is relentless, weaving emotional depth with heart-stopping action. Every storyline converges seamlessly, building toward a finale that promises to be nothing short of explosive.

Sam emerges as a deeply complex hero - brilliant, flawed, burdened by impossible choices. Idris Elba delivers a powerhouse performance, portraying a man haunted by the cost of survival yet relentless in his commitment to save others.

Perhaps most impressive is how the episode balances spectacle with substance. Beneath the gunfire and high-speed chases lies a story about manipulation, loyalty, and the human toll of covert warfare.
