The final episode of Lanterns is likely to begin with John Stewart finally standing face-to-face with Sinestro on the ruined alien world. John has spent most of the season chasing answers about Hal Jordan’s death, but the discovery that Hal had secretly brought Sinestro to this planet changes the entire investigation. Sinestro is no longer simply another mysterious figure connected to the Manhunter story. He may be the person who knows the missing piece of Hal’s final days.
John is unlikely to trust anything Sinestro tells him immediately. After everything he has witnessed, there is every reason for him to believe that Sinestro could be manipulating the situation. However, Sinestro may finally explain why Hal brought him there in the first place. The planet appears to be connected to the Manhunter’s use of fear gas, and that could reveal that Hal had discovered something much bigger than the murder investigation before he died. Instead of simply hiding Sinestro, Hal may have been protecting him, interrogating him or trying to force him to reveal the truth about what happened to Antaan and its people.
The biggest question will remain Hal’s death. Episode 7 deliberately makes suicide look like a disturbing possibility because of the parallels between Hal and his father. Hal inherited a complicated relationship with fear and failure, and his secret preparations suggest that he had been thinking about death for a long time. However, that may ultimately prove to be a carefully placed misdirection. Hal being killed by someone else would bring the mystery back into focus, especially if his final investigation uncovered something that made him a target.
One possibility is that Hal discovered the Manhunter's involvement and realized that the destruction of Antaan was not an isolated incident. If the same technology or fear-based weapon is connected to his murder, Hal may have been eliminated because he got too close to the truth. His elaborate preparations could then be understood not as evidence that he intended to die, but as proof that he knew someone was coming for him and wanted to leave John a trail to follow.
Kerry could also become much more important in the finale. Hal’s hologram has already suspected her, but the fact that the younger Halogram is working from old information means that his suspicion may not necessarily reflect what actually happened. John may eventually have to decide whether to trust Kerry or continue following Hal’s instincts. If Kerry has been hiding something, the finale could finally reveal what she knew about Hal’s investigation. If she is innocent, however, her involvement may instead give John another emotional piece of Hal’s life that he never understood while Hal was alive.
The most interesting possibility is that John will eventually realize that solving Hal’s murder is only one part of the larger problem. Hal may have spent his final days trying to uncover the truth behind the Manhunter and the fear weapon, and the reason he left behind such a complicated trail was to make sure another Lantern could finish what he started.
The relationship between John and the Halogram should also reach its emotional peak. The hologram has given John something he never received from the real Hal: an opportunity to understand the man behind the legend. By the finale, John may have to say goodbye to that version of Hal permanently. It would be fitting if the younger Hal, who has spent the season making jokes and pushing John toward the truth, ultimately helps him understand that being a Lantern does not mean being fearless. It means choosing what to do despite fear.
If Sinestro tries to exploit John's fears or memories, John may finally refuse to let his past control him. Rather than simply defeating Sinestro through brute force, the finale could use John's emotional growth as the real payoff. The same fear that once shaped both Hal and Antaan's people could become the thing John learns to confront without allowing it to define him.
The Manhunter mystery should also receive a major reveal. The destruction of Antaan cannot simply be an isolated piece of mythology after the show spent so much time connecting it to Hal's investigation. The finale could reveal that the Manhunter has been testing or weaponizing fear on different worlds, with Antaan serving as one of the earliest examples. If Hal discovered that Earth was somehow connected to those experiments, it would explain why he became so determined to uncover the truth and why Sinestro became important to his investigation.
There is also room for a final twist involving Hal himself. Even if the episode confirms that he was murdered, the truth about his final actions could be more complicated than John expects. Hal may have deliberately allowed himself to become a target because he knew it was the only way to expose whoever was behind the conspiracy. His lockbox, survival equipment and portal could therefore represent one final contingency plan. In that case, Hal may have been preparing for his death without actually intending to cause it.
By the end of the finale, John could emerge as the person who finally completes Hal's unfinished work. The season has gradually moved from a murder investigation into a story about two very different men carrying inherited trauma, and the finale will probably bring those two sides together. Hal's legacy may not be about the mistakes he made or the secrets he kept, but about the information he left behind for John to uncover.
The biggest surprise could therefore be that Lanterns does not end simply by revealing who killed Hal. The real conclusion may be about what Hal discovered before he died and what John chooses to do with that knowledge. Sinestro could hold the missing answers, the Manhunter could be responsible for something much larger than anyone realized, and John's final decision could determine whether Hal's legacy ends with his death or continues through the new Lantern who has finally learned how to carry it.
