Power Book III: Raising Kanan Season 5 Episode 4 Recap

The episode opens with another major setback as Breeze shares something he has always believed about his past. According to him, Def Con is his father, making him think that Kanan is his brother by blood. Breeze explains that Def Con had a relationship with his mother before becoming involved with Raq. Whether the story is actually true or not remains uncertain, but Breeze has no reason to doubt it. Kanan listens without correcting him, allowing Breeze to continue believing they share the same father. The conversation brings the two even closer as they continue building trust with one another.

While that bond grows stronger, Kanan is still unaware of the truth surrounding Famous and Crystal. Snaps and Pop remain responsible for their deaths, but the secret has yet to reach him. With Breeze now seeing Kanan as family, their partnership appears stronger than ever, creating loyalty between them as they move deeper into the drug business together.

Trouble soon finds Taz after his reckless behavior begins creating unnecessary problems. Breeze decides he has become more of a liability than an asset and quietly arranges for Kanan to handle the situation. Kanan carries out the killing without hesitation, proving once again that he is becoming increasingly comfortable with violence. Afterward, Breeze and Kanan work together to dispose of the body, cutting it apart before burning the remains to erase any evidence. The grim task strengthens the trust between them, showing Breeze that Kanan is willing to do whatever is necessary to protect their operation.

Elsewhere, Raq pays Breeze a visit to make one thing perfectly clear. Since Kanan is now working alongside him, she intends to stay involved in his business whether he likes it or not. Breeze refuses to be intimidated, but he also realizes Raq has no intention of stepping aside. Their tense conversation makes it clear that neither of them plans to surrender control, setting up another power struggle as both continue watching each other's every move.

Kanan also makes a move that creates new problems for his mother's operation. His actions interfere with Raq's business arrangement with Flossy, putting one of Flossy's associates under suspicion. The woman knows far more than she should, making her a dangerous loose end. Raq tries to calm the situation by assuring Flossy that she will deal with the problem if necessary, even offering to remove the woman herself before any secrets can spread further.

Despite everything that has happened between them, Raq continues protecting Kanan behind the scenes. She never reveals that her own son was responsible for disrupting the operation, choosing instead to keep his name out of the conversation. Exposing him would not only place Kanan in danger but could also damage her business relationship with Flossy. For now, Raq chooses silence, hoping she can contain the fallout before it reaches her family.

The episode also spends more time developing Kanan's growing relationship with the woman everyone has been calling Tiana. During their conversations, she finally reveals that her real name is Jarita, while Tiana is simply the name she uses for work. The revelation gives Kanan a deeper look into her personal life, and the two continue growing closer. As they spend more time together, Kanan gains valuable information through her, while Jarita slowly becomes more comfortable around him without fully understanding how dangerous his world truly is.

Another storyline focuses on Stephano after Raq and Marvin decide he has become too dangerous to leave alive. Marvin hires a crew from Memphis to carry out the assassination, but the plan quickly falls apart. One of the hired gunmen turns on his own partners, killing them so he can keep a larger share of the payment for himself. Instead of completing the contract, he goes directly to Stephano and reveals that Raq ordered the hit. After collecting his reward, the man attempts to leave, but Stephano immediately has him killed as well, ensuring there are no witnesses left behind.

Before the episode ends, Stephano sends a clear message back to Raq and Marvin by delivering proof that he knows exactly who targeted him. The warning confirms that their failed assassination has only escalated the conflict. Rather than eliminating Stephano, the attempt has pushed both sides closer to an all-out war, with each now fully aware that the other is preparing for the next move.

By the closing moments, several storylines are left hanging. Breeze and Kanan continue operating as if they are brothers, Raq faces growing pressure on multiple fronts, Jarita becomes more deeply connected to Kanan's life, and Stephano prepares to strike back after surviving the attempt on his life.
