Based on everything that unfolded in Episode 4 and the footage teased for the coming chapters, Episode 5 is expected to move the war from political maneuvering to outright bloodshed. HBO has yet to release a detailed synopsis beyond its standard episode listing, but the story appears ready to shift toward major military confrontations as both sides race to secure new allies and stronger positions. (Rotten Tomatoes)
Rhaenyra's greatest challenge may no longer come from the battlefield but from within King's Landing itself. Her harsh response to the anti-royal graffiti has already created fear among the smallfolk, and that unrest could continue to grow. The queen has spent much of the season trying to prove she is a just ruler, yet every difficult decision seems to push her closer to becoming the kind of monarch she never wanted to be. If the city's resistance intensifies, Rhaenyra may be forced to choose between mercy and absolute control, a decision that could permanently reshape how her own supporters view her.
Daemon is also unlikely to escape the consequences of his deception. Although Rhaenyra accepted the shepherd's head as proof that Jace's killer had been punished, Mysaria clearly doubts Daemon's version of events. If she begins investigating on her own, the truth about Rhaena and Sheepstealer may not remain hidden for long. A confrontation between Daemon and Mysaria would add tension inside the Black council, especially if Rhaenyra discovers that one of her closest allies has lied to her during the darkest period of her reign.
Tumbleton may become the next major flashpoint of the war. Ormund Hightower has revealed his true ambitions, and Daeron has now crossed a line that cannot easily be undone. After forcing the young prince to execute an innocent man, Ormund has tightened his grip over him, making Daeron less of a sheltered royal and more of a weapon for the Green cause. The arrival of Rhaenyra's dragonriders near Tumbleton could bring these two armies into direct conflict far sooner than either side expected. Early promotional material and fan discussion also suggest that large-scale battles are drawing closer as the season reaches its midpoint. (Reddit)
Criston Cole and Gwayne Hightower are also expected to remain on Aemond's trail. Harrenhal offered them no real answers, and Alys Rivers continues to guard her secrets with remarkable confidence. Whether Aemond is preparing another surprise attack or pursuing a plan of his own, his absence has become one of the biggest unanswered questions of the season. Every passing day weakens Green morale while strengthening rumors that the prince and Vhagar are waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike.
Meanwhile, Aegon's difficult journey with Larys Strong may continue testing the former king's pride. After experiencing life as a powerless servant, Aegon has little reason to accept defeat quietly. His determination to reunite with Sunfyre hints that he still believes the throne can be reclaimed. If the dragon truly survives its terrible wounds, Aegon could begin rebuilding both his confidence and his claim, setting the stage for another dangerous chapter in the Dance of the Dragons.
One storyline that deserves close attention is Helaena's pregnancy. It has the potential to reshape the political landscape, particularly if news reaches Rhaenyra's court. A new royal heir would further complicate the succession and could become another reason for rival factions to continue fighting rather than seek peace. Recent reporting also suggests the pregnancy may restore an important storyline from Fire & Blood that had previously appeared absent from the television adaptation. (Decider)
Episode 5 is therefore expected to focus less on setting the board and more on knocking pieces off it. If the first half of the season has been about gathering strength, the next chapter could mark the moment when those carefully laid plans finally collide in fire and blood.
