Tumbleton becomes the center of attention as the war continues to spread beyond the battlefields. Kat, Hugh Hammer's wife, who escaped King's Landing hoping to find safety with her brother, realizes there is no true refuge left in the realm. The Hightower forces now occupy the town, and civilians are forced to live alongside soldiers who show little respect for the people whose homes they have taken over. Every corner of the city reflects the growing cost of the civil war.
The episode also finally spends time with Daeron Targaryen, Alicent's youngest son, who has spent years in Oldtown under the care of his cousin, Ormund Hightower. Unlike his older brothers, Daeron has grown into a polite and disciplined young man, but it quickly becomes clear that Ormund's influence has shaped him in troubling ways. Ormund demands complete obedience, constantly pushing Daeron to become stronger while dismissing any sign of kindness or hesitation; his frustration grows as he waits for word from Aemond, whose disappearance has left the Hightower army uncertain about its next move. Without Vhagar, Ormund fears their hold over Tumbleton could weaken.
Elsewhere, Ser Criston Cole and Gwayne Hightower reach Harrenhal searching for Aemond, only to find a silent castle ruled by mystery. Every member of House Strong is gone, and the only person willing to greet them is Alys Rivers. Calm and unsettling as ever, Alys confirms that Aemond passed through Harrenhal before vanishing again after hearing that Rhaenyra had captured King's Landing. She offers little else, leaving Criston and Gwayne with more questions than answers. Even the scouts have failed to discover where Aemond and Vhagar have disappeared.
Inside the Red Keep, Rhaenyra continues reshaping her government after taking control of the capital. Grand Maester Orwyle is allowed to remain in his position as long as he proves loyal, while Torrhen Manderly is appointed Master of Coin despite inheriting an empty treasury. During the council meeting, plans are made to send forces toward Tumbleton to challenge Ormund's growing power. Hugh Hammer and Ulf White are instructed to patrol the region with their dragons until the army arrives.
After the formal meeting ends, Rhaenyra once again turns to Alicent for private conversation; though they now stand on opposite sides of the war, Rhaenyra still values Alicent's knowledge. Alicent offers insight into Ormund's personality, describing him as a proud man who despises anyone he considers beneath him. The conversation reflects how their complicated relationship continues to influence decisions even after years of conflict.
Corlys Velaryon, however, refuses to remain at court being furious that Rhaenyra has still not legitimized his sons, he leaves King's Landing to hunt down the remaining Triarchy forces threatening Westeros' seas. Before departing, he sends Alyn in his place to represent House Velaryon. Rhaenyra and Alyn share a surprisingly honest discussion about their fathers, acknowledging how both Viserys and Corlys often buried themselves in duty instead of confronting their families' problems.
Rhaenyra's efforts to maintain order create new problems inside the capital. After Ulf casually mentions the insults being painted across King's Landing, including graffiti calling her the "Queen of Bastards," Rhaenyra orders the Gold Cloaks to erase every mark and arrest those responsible. The crackdown quickly turns violent as soldiers clash with common people throughout the streets, showing how fragile her hold over the city has become.
Far from the capital, Larys Strong continues escorting the badly injured Aegon across the countryside. Their journey brings them first to Sunfyre, the dragon believed to have died after the Battle of Rook's Rest. Despite the dragon's horrific condition, Aegon insists Sunfyre is still alive, refusing to abandon hope. The pair later pass the remains of Meleys, where the devastation left behind by the dragon battle still scars the landscape.
Larys eventually arranges temporary shelter at a nearby castle while searching for passage across the Narrow Sea. Hoping to avoid attention, he advises Aegon to behave like an ordinary servant. The fallen king struggles with the humiliation. Forced to carry out menial tasks and answer to minor lords, Aegon's pride repeatedly gets the better of him. His frustration boils over after being denied food, resulting in an embarrassing confrontation that leaves him publicly humiliated and reminded how completely his fortunes have changed.
Daemon Targaryen spends part of the episode in the Vale, meeting Lady Jeyne Arryn. Expecting another request for soldiers, Jeyne is surprised when Daemon instead asks for money. She agrees to provide him with ten thousand gold dragons, allowing him to strengthen Rhaenyra's cause in another way. On his return journey, Daemon unexpectedly discovers Rhaena hiding with the wild dragon Sheepstealer. Still blaming herself for the chain of events that led to Jace's death, Rhaena refuses to leave her lonely refuge despite Daemon's attempts to convince her otherwise. He offers to help her return safely or seek Rhaenyra's forgiveness, but she chooses to remain hidden and accept what she believes is her punishment.
Unable to persuade his daughter, Daemon makes a ruthless decision. He kills an innocent shepherd and later presents the man's severed head before Rhaenyra, claiming he was responsible for Jace's death. The explanation is filled with gaps, and while Rhaenyra is too overwhelmed by grief to challenge him further, Mysaria immediately senses that Daemon is hiding the truth behind another carefully crafted lie.
The closing moments deliver two significant revelations. Helaena secretly reveals that she is pregnant, having hidden the news even from Alicent. The pregnancy introduces another uncertainty into an already fragile succession, creating new political complications for everyone involved in the conflict.
Back in Tumbleton, Ormund finally exposes the full extent of his ambitions. He confesses that he has spent years preparing Daeron not simply to serve House Hightower, but to become king himself. In Ormund's vision, Daeron will rule under Hightower guidance instead of following the path of his brothers. To test the young prince's resolve, Ormund orders him to execute a blacksmith who had defended his sister from one of the Hightower soldiers. Despite knowing the man acted to protect his family, Daeron obeys without protest. As Tessarion burns the innocent man's body, Ormund watches proudly, believing the prince has taken his first true step toward becoming the ruler he has always intended to create.
