MobLand Season 2 Episode 4 Recap: Harry Sets a Trap

MobLand Season 2 Episode 4, titled “Blank Curtain,” brings about the growing war for North London, the Harrigans’ internal conflicts, and the dangerous secrets threatening to tear the family apart. Harry Da Souza finds himself dealing with a police investigation that could expose one of his most valuable assets. Meanwhile, Conrad Harrigan becomes increasingly unpredictable, Eddie and Gina prepare for a mysterious trip to Ireland, and Jan’s relationship with Donnie takes a disastrous turn. As Frankie Cooper continues to make calculated moves against his rivals, Harry discovers that even the people closest to him may be creating opportunities for his enemies.

The episode begins to explore the consequences of the recent bombing, with Harry working to keep the incident from attracting the wrong kind of attention. He instructs Finch to make the explosion at the yard appear to have been caused by a gas leak. However, the explanation does little to convince Kavanagh, who is already suspicious of what happened. When she examines the ballistics evidence from the dog track, she begins connecting the dots and realizes that something is not right. Her investigation threatens to uncover Finch’s involvement with the Harrigans, putting Harry in a difficult position.

Once Harry learns that Kavanagh is getting closer to the truth, he devises a way to determine whether Finch is still working in the family’s interests. Rather than confronting the compromised officer directly, Harry arranges a daylight jewellery-store robbery and ensures that the getaway car can be traced back to the Harrigans. The plan is designed to test whether Finch passes the information along to the people who should know about it. When no warning reaches Harry, he realizes that Finch is no longer properly connected to the operation.

For Harry, a compromised police officer is useful only as long as he can be trusted to protect the family. Finch’s failure to alert him confirms that the situation has changed, leaving the officer with little chance of survival. Harry’s response once again demonstrates how calmly he can arrange someone's death while making it appear to be something else entirely. He does not act out of anger or allow his emotions to interfere with the job. Instead, he treats the problem as another piece of business that needs to be resolved.

The methodical approach also highlights the difference between Harry and Frankie. Although both men are intelligent enough to anticipate their opponents’ moves, Frankie appears to enjoy the violence and intimidation that come with his position. Harry, by contrast, approaches his work with chilling practicality, he understands the danger Frankie represents and even tries to make Conrad see that his rival cannot simply be dismissed as another criminal who will back down when threatened.

Conrad, however, is becoming increasingly difficult to reason with. His frustration with the war and the family's deteriorating position leads him to turn against Harry, suggesting that Harry may have considered accepting Kat McAllister’s offer during the events of the first season. Conrad uses the accusation to put Harry in an uncomfortable position, effectively forcing him to choose between his loyalty to Conrad and his relationship with Kevin. Harry recognizes that this kind of internal division is precisely what could cost them the war, but Conrad refuses to listen. Instead of bringing the family together, he continues allowing his resentment to dictate his decisions.

Conrad’s unpredictable behavior becomes even more apparent when he discovers half a bottle of antifreeze. He quickly suspects that Maeve intended to use it to poison Seraphina. Although he does not confront Maeve about his discovery during the episode, his reaction suggests that he is already considering how to deal with her.

Despite the growing tension within the family, Conrad continues pursuing his own plans against Frankie. He visits the safehouse where Gina is waiting for Eddie to return with his passport. Eddie needs the document because he and Gina are preparing to travel to Ireland at Maeve’s request. The purpose of the trip remains unclear, leaving both characters heading into an uncertain situation without knowing what Maeve ultimately expects from them.

The involvement in the plan also raises questions about Maeve’s intentions. If her objective were simply to eliminate Gina, there would seemingly be easier ways to accomplish that without sending the pair abroad. However, Maeve has her own reasons for arranging the journey, and the episode leaves those motives unexplained. For now, Eddie and Gina remain caught between the competing interests of the people around them, with little indication of what awaits them once they reach Ireland.

Conrad's campaign against Frankie takes a more violent turn when he visits one of his rival's businesses alongside Paul. The pair open fire on several of Frankie's men, leaving multiple victims behind before taking one of the men captive. The attack makes it clear that Conrad is no longer content to rely on threats or wait for the conflict to resolve itself. He wants to hit Frankie directly, even as his increasingly emotional decisions threaten to undermine the Harrigans' position.

Meanwhile, Jan becomes further entangled in her relationship with Donnie, having previously tried to keep Harry on the right path, she now appears to have surrendered much of the judgment that once made her a more independent presence in his life. Her involvement with Donnie leaves her vulnerable to manipulation, particularly because she fails to recognize how dangerous the situation has become.

Frankie, however, has been paying attention. By the end of the episode, Harry receives a video message showing Jan having sex with Donnie. The footage has been recorded and delivered as part of Frankie's ongoing campaign against him. Its arrival immediately transforms Jan's private choices into a weapon that can be used against Harry, bringing his personal life into direct conflict with his professional responsibilities. The message also demonstrates that Frankie is willing to attack Harry through the people closest to him rather than relying solely on violence between their respective crews.

The video leaves Harry with another problem to consider, and his reaction could have serious consequences for everyone involved. Frankie has found a way to provoke him without confronting him directly, forcing Harry to decide how to respond to a betrayal that is both personal and strategically dangerous.

Seraphina, meanwhile, remains caught between competing interests as she continues navigating her increasingly complicated relationship with Harry and Kat. Harry eventually confronts her about the arrangement she made with Kat, revealing that he knows more about her activities than she might have expected. Rather than immediately treating her as an enemy, however, he admits that he once considered accepting the same offer himself. His response suggests that he understands the pressures that led her to make the deal, even if he cannot completely trust her.

By attempting to maintain relationships with multiple sides, she has placed herself in a position where her loyalties can be questioned by everyone. Harry recognizes that her divided allegiance could become useful to him, particularly as the Harrigans lose control of more aspects of the conflict. If he can turn her complicated position to his advantage, he may gain an edge against Frankie at a time when he desperately needs one.

By the end of “Blank Curtain,” the threats surrounding the Harrigans have become more complicated than a straightforward fight for territory. Kavanagh is closing in on corruption within the police investigation, Conrad is allowing his emotions to interfere with Harry’s judgment, and Frankie has found a way to strike at Harry through his personal relationships. At the same time, Eddie and Gina's impending journey to Ireland and Seraphina's shifting loyalties introduce further uncertainty into an already unstable situation.
